Root Cause Assignment (RCA)
The Root Cause Assignment (RCA) application from Activplant allows operators and supervisors to provide feedback about the production incidents that occur on the shop floor. RCA allows administrators to devise reason code trees with all possible incident causes, from which operators can then selectively assign as the cause of the incidents. RCA uses the principle of asking "why?" five times in order to determine root cause, which is a tenet of the Toyota Production System, and commonly used in Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma. RCA supports entry of information using both a PC based keyboard and mouse interface as well as a touchscreen compatible interface that also includes support for an on-screen soft-keyboard.
As an investigative tool, RCA provides a broad assortment of options to deepen the understanding of root cause, such as incident linking, editable parameters, and comments. Administrators and supervisors can use the information to develop plans for corrective action, and use RCA to confirm success. RCA enables personnel to analyze root causes and quickly take appropriate, corrective actions to maintain optimum productivity.
Whether your organization has operators enter information in real-time using stations on the line or relies on supervisors updating incident information post-shift using a computer, Root Cause Assignment provides the necessary interfaces to enter the right information for in-depth analysis and reporting.
